Some Garden Shopping Buzz from The Mid-Atlantic Home and Garden Show!

One of the great things about participating in a show is getting the opportunity to meet other people with similar interests. I was wandering the aisles and saw these fantastic watering cans and had to stop. The work is lovely! Bringing flowers to floral related hardware is a great idea! The company, KMMK is the brainchild of Margaret Krogman.

The name KMMK has a very special meaning to Krogman who revealed to me, “It’s the first letters of my husband’s, son’s, mother’s and my last name….two Kens and two Margarets”

Margaret, who does ALL the artwork herself, started her company KMMK a year ago. She, “decided to start the business because people would see some of my work at my house and would ask where they could purchase similar items. When we opened the business, we (my family and I) wanted to provide
items that people could actually “use” and not have as yet another dust collector in their homes.” she explains.

The process is complicated. She doesn’t just start painting. There is a lot of prep work. “We start out with cans that have a baked on enamel base coat or a plain silver galvanized can.” she continues, ”All our paints are outdoor paints that have UV protection to aid in the life of the artwork. Once the cans are hand painted they cure for three days at which time we apply outdoor sealant so our cans can be used outdoors. This second sealant adds another two days to the process” she continues.

KMMK makes more than watering cans. They also have a delightful selection of painted glassware. ”The most unique aspect of our glass products”, Margaret explains, “is that they can actually go in the top rack of the dish washer! We take the extra step and bake our paint onto the glass, a process that adds approximately seven hours to each piece so that all these pieces are user friendly.”

“…We also wanted to offer our patrons the opportunity to mix and match different pieces for their table
settings that were hand painted. Many of our designs were created to compliment other items. We offer wine glasses and beverage glasses, dinner and dessert plates, trifle bowls and pitchers and carafes.”

“Bright colors of our fish line and flower lines use the same colors so people are not locked into one look with their tableware.”

If you want to order some items you’ll have to go straight to the source. KMMK is still working on getting their website up. Until then you can contact Margaret directly at 757-430-4436 or email mkrogman@cox.net I’m going to have to order some of the wine glasses! I’ll be posting some other great vendors from the show as well in the coming weeks.
‘Til Tomorrow…

These are great! I have a friend who has painted some wineglasses for me with a seasonal theme (one each for each season) but the watering cans are amazing and I would love to get one for a client. I will e-mail Margaret right away. Thanks for giving her talent a spot to shine!
