Longwood’s Idea Garden has given me my best ideas.

Longwood Garden’s is a garden for all gardens.  I can’t visit or write about Longwood enough.

I’ll be heading up there again as soon as the snow settles and the roads clear.  Until then we get to take a look at what to expect this Summer!

Just one of the themed gardens at Longwood, the idea Garden is actually a collection of eleven separate educational gardens which are highlighted by perennials, annuals, roses, ornamental grasses and even a vegetable garden.

According to Longwood, “Within each section, gardeners can observe and compare reliable plant varieties for southeastern Pennsylvania. An Example Garden is also included, featuring woody and herbaceous plants, vegetables, flowers, and garden structures in a landscaped setting.”

One of the great things about this experience has been catching the horticultural bug. I want to know more. Hopefully over the years I will be able to pass along what I learn about these amazing flowers and plants. This might take a while : )

My favorite bloom is still the Dahlia. Perhaps it’s the intricate geometrics and soft rounding. But I could photograph these all day. The Idea Garden is full of them in the Summer.

When I do my serious photography I often come to this garden.

It looks like every type of annual and perennial is grown here. Everything from geraniums and cana to marigolds.

I for one am still a horticultural novice and therefore have been coming for the joy of photographing the flowers! However this blooming season, I’ll be coming to learn.

As I write more and more about these great gardens I’ve become frustrated at not being able to identify the plants so that I can find out more about them.  For example, I would have loved to have learned more about the marigold looking flower above and the neat red plants below.  Perhaps one of you know these lovely flowers?

The Idea Garden is amazing and a great place to practice your photography and learn about different plants!  I’ll be back to catch the idea garden this Spring!  For more information visit www.longwoodgardens.org

Well, this Bee has been snowed in for days and is planning on heading out!  I hope everyone else if safe and warm.  It’s nice to know that Spring is not far off now.  Have a fantastic weekend!

‘Til Tomorrow…

Britt : )
