The Daily Flower is back on track!
On May 25th you got to see what I do. Me and my shadow shooting flowers in gardens around the country. Today is a peak of what was in my sights through my lens. More often than not my flower portraits are shot with The Daily Flower in mind. Since I started the site I’ve been doing a daily flower in black and white. Since my surgery at the end of March I wasn’t able to keep that up. Now that I’m feeling better I’m finally caught up and back on track! So here are just a some of the daily flowers that I’ve now posted to fill in the blanks since March 27th.
As much as I love to shoot color images for the site, my real love of photography will always be black and white. I find it lovely and an art form in itself. Shooting for black and white also requires a different view of color. Knowing what will translate in black and white is of the utmost importance. Of then the coolest colors are not necessarily conducive to a black and white image.
I have spent many an hour in the darkroom before digital came arrived and I’ve translated those tones to what I’m doing now. If anyone is interested in buying a daily flower, just email me and I can let you know if the particular image is available.
The daily flower is one of the most fun parts of my day. Fortunately I am out photographing so often, creating enough images is the easy part. Finding the perfect blooms is the challenge!
I personally think flowers are art and I approach them as I would any other portrait with reverence.
The other great thing about working in black and white is that you get to play with structure instead of color. It’s often the most beautiful part of the flower.
And it’s often in the places you don’t expect, like the petal’s skin.
Of course one of my favorite blooms to shoot is the Magnolia tree in our courtyard. It’s currently in full bloom! I shot most of the flowers this last weekend but the magnolia and mum below are from last year.
Well, thank you for your patience the past two months. Having abdominal surgery isn’t conducive to getting much photography or computer work done!
It’s finally time for me to get back to all those photo projects and enjoy a great cup of tea!
‘Til Tomorrow…
Britt : )
