A great weekend had by all! Fountains and Fireworks!
Saturday, Erika and I headed up to Pennsylvania to spend the weekend at Longwood Gardens. My last post gave five great reasons why Longwood is a perfect place to plant ones chair when it comes to mixing flowers and fireworks! Today it’s all about the main event!
The fireworks are set off above this main fountain area. During the day it’s open for visitors to stroll and enjoy.
It’s a huge space offering a great play area for kids. This is just one of the garden areas here, but the fountains are a main event!
We were lucky enough to plan well and got 1st place in line for some 6,000 people who bought tickets, that is until we realized we were second. A man had saved his spot just infront of us. Good for him I say! We also met George and Mary, a great couple, while waiting for our 3:00 entry. We had our chairs ready and when they let us in we had first pick, right up against the hedge between two of the fountains. A perfect unobscured view! As I mentioned the other day, Longwood expects patrons to leave their chairs attended and stroll the gardens for hours. When we did finally make it back to our seats, they were empty and waiting for us.
Just after placing our chairs we headed over to the Fireworks Bar-b-que. Which had Longwoods famed Blueberry Lemonade! We each drank at least four cups! There was stunning asparagus, and veggies, the famous Kennett Square Mushrooms, chicken, cheeseburgers etc… All one could eat! We happily stuffed ourselves.
Desert consisted of phenomenal watermelon, ice cream and cookies. There were even brownies to be had. Just superb!
After spending the next four hours touring the gardens and simply wandering with camera in hand, we headed back to get in position.
At 9:15 on the nose the fountains started up! Choreographed music and colored lights set them ablaze against the darkening blue sky and fireflies…
And then, they were off!
The music was fantastic! The fireworks were amazing!
They danced skyward and shot up faster than this shutter bug could keep up with!
They filled the sky with reds and greens…
The show was punctuated with those loud, white crackling ones high above for great dramatic effect! Good thing Erika brought the ear plugs!
Every color was represented!
If only I had taped it!
And when the fireworks finale crescendoed the crowed burst with applause.
The sky was perfect until the half way point when the winds shifted and the smoke began to settle a tad around the area. But the time they were over, we were surrounded! But how cool it was!
The light was lovely through the haze!
Eventually it began to dissipate.
As did the crowds.
A great weekend had by all! I have tons more to share from our great weekend. Stay tuned! So what did you do to celebrate? Go to any gardens? Spend it in your own? Have any pictures? let me know : )
‘Til Tomorrow…
Britt : )
