The André Bluemel Meadow at River Farm
As mentioned last week, River Farm is the home of the American Horticultural Society. It holds numerous garden areas, but my favorite is by far its four acre André Bluemel Meadow.
The nearly 100,000 meadow plants and flowers are tremendous.
They come in all colors. I especially loved towering fields of pink.
Some are packed into the tall grasses…
Wandering the area, however, is made easy. There are cut paths that carve and curve throughout.
Half the fun was happening upon the wild flowers as we traveled.
In the center of the field is this stone circle which offered a place to sit for the weary. According the signage, “The Design for the Meadow Overlook was inspired by the council ring, a circular meeting space certain Native American tribes adopted for community gatherings and ceremonial purposes. In spring, the Meadow Overlook is surrounded by the bight blue flowers of camas lily whose bulbs were once an important food source Native Americans.”
From here, the views back at the main house were lovely.
As were the nearby flowers.
Which are generally found in bunches as you journey.
We must have spent an hour and a half strolling about.
Erika brought her binoculars and saw a bald eagle fly overhead! I of course was heads down attempting do a meet and greet with every flower we came upon : ) I will definitely have to come back and often as the seasons pass.
