I mainly write about gardens for seven days but I’ve found this week it’s also a joy to write about the places where gardens are offered. The National Cathedral is one of those phenomenal places. As it’s getting close to winter many of us are trying to move indoors. However, the Bishop’s Garden is still a wonderful cold weather retreat. If your not in the mood to put on the layers to stroll about outdoors at least consider driving to the Cathedral’s easy parking underground garage and walk the short distance over to the Herb Cottage Shop! It’s the perfect place to get Christmas presents for your garden loving friends! The Herb Cottage is especially wonderful for those who love all things gardens and the proceeds go directly to the upkeep of the gardens and the Cathedral grounds. That is indeed money well spent! It’s a fun trip for one and probably even more fun if you go with a friend. There are loads of Christmas items for sale as well.
This is my kind of shop! As an avid fine tea drinker, I am thrilled with the teas here from Taylors of Harrogate, Harrison and Crosfield. There are wonderful tea pots and all thing related to this, my favorite activity when I’m not out shooting gardens.
Of course being the Herb Cottage, there are rows of herbs for sale. The cottage has been providing herbs for decades as part of their rich history.
Additionally, there are garden items for sale to help keep your garden lovely all year. These garden stakes are wonderful! Read the labels!
There is a large bin of these wonderfully witty items and just in time for Christmas!
With names like Key lime Marmalade and Mango Butter, these preserves and jams are a great gift! There were rows of these against the far wall and I’ll be heading back to get some for my tea and toast this holiday season!
And for many, what would a great cup of tea be without some honey! This great honey display jar is “sweet!”
And, for those of us who still love to give and receive real snail mail, there are really fun note card options here as well as notebooks and the sort! Of course they even had a separate card center!
Being the “Holiday Season” I would be remiss to not show some of the fun Christmas ornaments they offer here. The first and my very favorite is this Moose! I don’t know why I love it so, but it’s just so darn cute.
The Herb Cottage also sells these wonderful little woodland creature ornaments that are quite fun for the nature lovers tree. The rabbit and owl are great!
And the bird may just have to be bought for my birding enthusiast, sister and editor for my dyslexic spelling, Erika. You didn’t read and edit this part Erika. ; )
Of course it wouldn’t be Christmas without Santa and he is waiting here at the Herb Cottage.
And for the very classy gift giver or tree decorator, there are hand blown glass ornaments here that are just beautiful.
Today’s post may be light on text but I am hoping these photos give the gift of the Herb Cottage experience. There are loads of other items including lamps and dishes that lure me toward them every time! The gift shop website cites that the, “historic Herb Cottage features elegant and unusual gifts – Home Décor – Lamps – Wedding & Baby Gifts – Pottery – Cache Pots – Kitchen & Garden Accessories – Scented Oils & Soaps – Cards & Stationery.” as well as, “Cathedral-related items, Handmade, Fairtrade, and American-made gifts” The holidays is a great time to give back to the Bishop’s garden through the All Hallows Guild.

Tomorrow were heading back over to the Cathedral for an inside look at some of it’s extraordinary events!
